Work in Progress: Portraiture

Here’s a little sneak-tease screenshot of an image I was working late last night. I usually shoot a roll or two a day on my Hasselblad, taking portraits of friends etc hanging out while were around the city skateboarding. This work has really piled up lately and I’m looking at 70+ pieces to go through and pick from. I’ve finished about 6 of them so far.

This screenshot is from the last step of my process in Photoshop, dust removal. Defnitely the most fun part of the deal. That was sarcasm..

Very pleased to announce the launch of my new website. I have been working on this for months now, going through multiple layouts before finally deciding on this one. Huge shoutout to my good friend and awesome web designer Neil Magadzia for being so patient and listening to what I wanted to do. I actually had my domain and hosting package for almost a year before I did anything with it. I’m planning on continuously expanding the content, so stay tuned! Since the brunt of the work on it is done, I should be able to spend more time on this blog too. Click the photo to get to my site. www.joshhotz.com enjoy!

Stoked to see Ottawa/Antique Skateboards getting so much coverage these days! Renowned skate news website Push.ca has interviewed the two main figures behind the film While You Were on Facebook. Terry Worona, Andrew Szeto and myself share the photo coverage. So hyped.

Sam Lind, Trip to Hell 2011, Bristol, CT

Big thanks to Antique for organizing this trip, probably the most fun I have had skateboarding. Ever. This is just a teaser, there’s more to come.

After a couple months work I have finally finished producing the images of Arab Shopkeepers from my summer trip to Israel. I’m currently finalizing some writing for the book I will be releasing for SPAO’s end of year show.

Here’s a little taste of something to come. The final product will be going in the SPAO Open House Show on November 4th. Doors open at 168 Dalhousie from 3pm-9pm come enjoy the artwork, finger foods  and select beverages. (Cheap beer and wine). For more information, check out the Facebook Event

Open House Shoot

With a critique for SPAO’s Open House show coming up this Friday, the time came to crack down and get shooting. I headed over to the studio, got the set together and got shooting. Here’s a shot of how I had things set up. I hope to see some familiar faces on November 4th. Keep posted for more information, and the Facebook Event. Again I am using the excuse of being way too busy shooting, editing etc. to update my blog. Hopefully I’ll have the time to write a nice post, but for now this is what’s going on.
I scanned all the good frames from my trip to Israel a couple months ago, and am only now slowly starting to post produce each image. I have some landscapes, and some portraits that I will hopefully be producing into a physical book/portfolio.
