Work in Progress: Portraiture
Here’s a little sneak-tease screenshot of an image I was working late last night. I usually shoot a roll or two a day on my Hasselblad, taking portraits of friends etc hanging out while were around the city skateboarding. This work has really piled up lately and I’m looking at 70+ pieces to go through and pick from. I’ve finished about 6 of them so far.  This screenshot is from...

Stoked to see Ottawa/Antique Skateboards getting so much coverage these days! Renowned skate news website Push.ca has interviewed the two main figures behind the film While You Were on Facebook. Terry Worona, Andrew Szeto and myself share the photo coverage. So hyped.

Open House Shoot
With a critique for SPAO’s Open House show coming up this Friday, the time came to crack down and get shooting. I headed over to the studio, got the set together and got shooting. Here’s a shot of how I had things set up. I hope to see some familiar faces on November 4th. Keep posted for more information, and the Facebook Event. Be sure to follow me, my school on twitter and tumblr....

Recap: Ottawa
I have been shooting a ridiculous amount these days, day in day out. I think I have 3 days worth of photos still sitting untouched on my memory card.  I have been shooting a ton of sequences too, so many that my cameras shutter has begun to slow down and make weird noises. It doesn’t always seem to want to shoot at 8 frames per second, especially when I’m firing off thousands of...

This marks the first summer since I was 15 in which I havn’t had a full time job. The past 4 years I have been juggling shooting, and skating, with full time retail work. While it’s nice to have a steady flow of cash throughout the summer, I have really learned to relax over the summer. Though I’m probably just confusing relaxing with being a piece of shit. Will Marshall knows...

Stolen Gear
nortonphoto: I’m sure a bunch of you have heard the less-than-exhilarating tale of my camera gear getting stolen last week. It’s all insured, but here are the serial numbers for some of the bigger items in case you see them pop up somewhere. Keep your eyes peeled for me and help pass this along. Nikon D3s Serial: 2030529 Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8 D ED Serial: 858721 Nikon AF 60mm ...

Toronto: Recap
Planning this trip happened pretty darn quickly, shuffling the days of departure around 3 times caused a bit of confusion. I ended up getting a call from Mitch at 11:30pm, saying we needed to leave at 7am the next morning. Having not packed a thing, and feeling a little hazy I got to it. With 5 hours of sleep, and a long rainy drive ahead of us we were on the road by 7:30. We stopped off at S...

Trying to get back into the routine of posting more stuff here… seems these days I only have time for quick posts through my Twitter account. So if you wanna know what’s up, you should follow it. Here’s something I was shooting last night, as a little tease of things to come. I promise I’ll start doing some more writing one of these days.. but for now i have 10 days of...

En Equilibre: The Teardown
This wasn’t supposed to happen. When I wrapped up my last documentary of EQ, I was given the hope that the park would stick around for another 2 years. Apparently the owner (Jaques, see ramp photo) was fed up with throwing $60,000 at it a year, without any revenue to help cover the costs. En Equilibre has been honing the skills of Ottawa and area skaters for 7 years. There has been a buzzing...

En Equilibre: A Documentary
En Equilibre, located at 140 Boulevard Gréber in Gatineau, QC is the only only indoor skatepark for the Ottawa/Gatineau skaters to hone their skills over the harsh Canadian winters. The park opened in 2001, but it’s existence has recently been threatened due to little money flow. The warehouse space was supposed to be bought out, however the deal fell through on both occasions. As it stands...

This is an older one I’ve been sitting on since last summer. Will came down for a little bit to compile some photos to sit on over the winter months. The window sill was lifted from the frame, and was  shitty soft metal. I grabbed the hammer from my toolbox and we nailed the “coping” back in. 15 minutes later the cops rolled up saying they got a call about a bunch of...

Sam Lind goes to war.
Mitch Barrette has always been on spot missions. Usually uncapping and bondo-ing, but this past August, he hooked up with a few of the homies to build this unique spot. The base was put down one night,  then the urethane-friendly top layer was done. The crew left the spot for the night, and went back to session it the next day. What they found wasn’t the smooth tranny they were hoping ...
